The Birth of a Legend: The Opening of Tolmachevo Airport

This year marked the beginning of the modern history of civil aviation in Siberia. Novosibirsk International Airport (Tolmachevo), built as a strategic facility of national importance, received its first scheduled flights. From the outset, it was designed to handle the most modern aircraft of its time, laying the foundation for its status as the main air hub beyond the Urals.

To improve management efficiency and comprehensively develop the macroregion's aviation infrastructure, a large-scale reorganization was initiated. Key Siberian airports, including Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk, were merged into a single holding company. This made it possible to begin implementing a strategic program to modernize terminals and runways and implement uniform, high standards of service and safety.

The holding company confirmed its status as a technology leader by becoming the first in Siberia to implement an end-to-end biometric passenger identification system at Tolmachevo Airport. This landmark event ushered in the era of digital travel, significantly increasing the speed and convenience of all procedures, and became a symbol of the transition to the airports of the future.
